Hearing Aids For Children

Finding the Right Child Hearing Aids

Getting the news that your child is hearing impaired can be tough on any parent, but it is going to be up to you to make sure that you get the best possible child hearing aids so that they can get their hearing back.

It may be your first experience with in finding this kind of apparatus, and you are surely going to need some tips in how to choose the right item.

In general, you will find that there are two different types of devices.  They will be referred to as BTE or behind the ear and ITE for in the ear.

When you are getting a hearing aid for a child, you will probably want to go with one that fits behind the ear.  The main reason for this is that the child will obviously be growing and you will want the device to be comfortable on them for years to come.

These types of hearing aids work better for a child because if you choose an ITE, you will find that they have to be molded to fit the contour of the child’s inner ear.  This can be quite expensive, especially if you have a younger child who will need to get refitted quite often.  Hearing aids are not cheap and this can cost you significant money over time.

The next decision that you will have to make is if you are going to use digital or analog child hearing aids.  As you may have already assumed, the digital device will have the better sound, but it is also going to be more costly.  There are quite a few arguments that lead more towards the digital hearing aid because the sound is much truer and the quality is far superior to that of the analog model.

If you are finding yourself in a financial crunch, you may want to consider using a conventional hearing device that features analog signal processing. As we stated above, they are going to be much less expensive and will have to be monitored manually.  The child would have to adjust the volume depending on the setting that they are in.

You will have two choices if you choose to go with a programmable hearing aid.  You can get either the analog or go with the more expensive digital one.  While the analog one is basically an upgraded version of the conventional hearing aid, the digital one is the most technically advanced.  Because of these advances, you will not only get a better sound quality, but also less feedback when they are using them.
